We took a Taxi on Tuesday to the town of Nairn, east of Inverness on the North Sea.

It is another lovely coastal town in the Highlands.

We made two stops along the way.

First to see Highland & Shetland Cows. We were told by the Culloden Battlefield Manager where to find them grazing. They are very interesting cows to see due to their shaggy appearance!

Second we stopped at the ancient estate and castle of the Rose Clan, Kilravock, pronounced Kill-rock. Both of us have ancestral ties to the Clan Chief William the 11th Laird of Kilravock 1544-1611. Our shared 10th Great Grandfather. So yes, we are kissing cousins!

We then traveled to the nearby town of Nairn, the hometown of the Rose’s. We had hoped to find more information on our Rose Clan heritage.

We visited the town museum and inquired about the Rose’s, and to our delight the current museum caretaker had married into the Rose Clan! Jenny was a wonderful source of family history and information about the clan. We just can’t hardly believe our good luck!

We found a lawn bowling field next to the museum. Joan got a private lesson in lawn bowling from the Greenkeeper!
